| The Grand Strand area from Little River to Pawley's Island has seen dramatic changes since first development began in 1901. By the 1920's the first golf course Pine Lakes International Golf Club was built; famous as the birthplace of Sports Illustrated Magazine. The opening of the intracoastal waterway in 1936 to pleasure boats and commercial shipping made the Myrtle Beach/North Myrtle Beach and Grand Stand area a boaters paradise. Now our guests can enjoy the waterway with great opportunities to rent boats and jet skis and take in the breathtaking scenery along this great stretch of intracoastal waterway. |
| By the 1940's the Grand Stand was a well established growing area. Development moved North with Windy Hill, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive and Cherry Grove springing up to meet the ever increasing demand. In 1968 these northern towns came together to form their own community, North Myrtle Beach. Best know as the birthplace of South Carolina's state dance the Shag, North Myrtle Beach covers a thirteen and a half square mile land area with nine miles of broad sandy beach. |
